Our letterpress is an antique Chandler & Price "Old Style" platen press that was built in 1892. It's a full 800 pounds of cast iron mechanical wonder and beauty. Completely human-powered, it's a refreshing diversion away from the computer, and we enjoy using it as much as possible. With the deep impression and beautiful texture, letterpress is our favorite form of printing.

We bought our letterpress from the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto, California. Fortunately we live so close to the museum and they even delivered it! It was quite amazing to see the delivery of this 800-pound machine into our tiny garage, which is now our “print shop”. Check out the pictures to see it go from the "almost as antique" Chevy El Camino into our studio.

*Interesting fact- The name of the man who sold it to us is John Grant- no relation to us, but ironically, the name of Jeffrey's father! We think it was a sign!
